STATE COLLEGE, PA, January 11, 2024  — Mykhaylo (Mikhail) Golovnya has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.

Mr. Golovnya is among the leading world experts in modern tree-based machine learning and predictive analytics algorithms, which include classification and regression trees (CART), multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), stochastic gradient boosting (MART, TreeNet, XGBOOST), and random forests. Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in an enterprise-level of statistical analysis in software platforms, Mr. Golovnya has earned distinction as a senior advisory data scientist with Minitab, LLC. Since 2017, he has focused his efforts on taking complex data science concepts and algorithms and determining how to implement, present and explain them so everyone can understand.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Golovnya worked as a senior scientist with Salford Systems. Having immigrated to the United States in 1999, he was also able to secure a position as a research/teaching assistant at a university. To prepare for his career, he earned a Master of Science in aeronautical control systems from Kharkiv State Polytechnic University in Ukraine in 1995. Following this achievement, he attained a Master of Science in statistical computing from the University of Central Florida in 2001 and a Master of Arts in science and religion from Biola University in 2022.

Within the coming years, Mr. Golovnya intends to learn more about the new frontiers in data science, data mining, text analytics and data analysis to advance his professional understanding in his advisory role. A dedicated lifelong learner, he also aims to deepen his understanding of different worldviews. Fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, and English, as well as proficient in reading Portuguese, Italian, and Greek languages, Mr. Golovnya now pursues learning Hebrew. In his personal life he is actively engaged with local church outreaches, Bible teaching, ham radio and international missionary work.
